LUCY CARROLL BSc Hons. | Childbirth Educator | REGISTERED MIDWIFE | Founder of Birth & Beyond Education

Lucy is a Registered Midwife from Bath, England. Having completed her Midwifery training at the prestigious City University in London, she went on to do her preceptorship year at a large NHS University Hospital in East London where she held a rotational position working between the low risk midwifery led birthing unit, high risk obstetric unit and the ante and postnatal wards. Lucy then moved into the Community setting, where she ran a low risk midwifery clinic for pregnancy, provided postnatal care in the home setting and attended many home births alongside the Home Birth Midwifery Team. Lucy has been present for thousands of babies in her 15 years as a Registered Midwife. Lucy’s care, compassion, has led her to positively impact many women and their families.

Education is Lucy’s real drive within midwifery. Through her career she has mentored student and junior midwives and developed and implemented antenatal education programmes within the hospital setting, teaching hundreds of couples prepare for labour, birth, newborn feeding and parenting.

When an opportunity for an overseas midwifery role arose in 2014, Lucy ventured here to Australia, taking a position at the Mater Private Hospital working across all areas of Maternity: Birth unit, the Post Natal ward and the Education Team, utilising her diverse range of midwifery skills.

Lucy is currently one of the clinical Midwives on The Mater’s Birthing Unit, regularly looking after the couples she educates on her birth courses, helping them to welcome their new babies into the world. Lucy also works as a Practice Midwife for Private Obstetrician, Dr Christopher Smith in his rooms at North Shore Private Hospital.

Breastfeeding support and promotion is another great interest to Lucy. Through her hospital and Practice Midwifery role, she works closely with women to guide and help create individualised plans to encourage a happy and healthy newborn feeding experience.

Lucy’s love for education has grown through her career, leading her to complete her Calmbirth® Educator Training in 2019. It is in this training that Lucy has developed a great interest in the mind- body connection during labour, providing the foundation for the educational support Lucy has to offer.

Birth & Beyond Education was born in 2019, when Lucy felt unsatisfied with the lack of intimacy that came with teaching large hospital classes. She decided to offer small group education, providing a non-intimidating and safe learning space. She is very confident that no matter how birth unfolds, she will prepare you for every eventuality with her realistic approach to teaching. Lucy has educated over 700 couples since Birth & Beyond Education started.

Lucy and her team are now one of the chosen education services to provide The Mater patients their antenatal classes.  Look out for Lucy on the Birthing Unit if you have chosen The Mater Hospital to have your baby!
